Overview of Florida’s Indian River Lagoon
There are three primary water bodies within the Indian River Lagoon system.
They include the Indian River Lagoon itself, the Banana River, and the Mosquito Lagoon.
Paddling the Indian River Lagoon offers the chance to see manatees, dolphins and bird life; such a gannets, gulls, shorebirds, and wading birds along its’ shores.
Looking into the water as you paddle may reward you with the sighting of a sea-turtle grazing on algae.
In the warmer months you will find conchs, rays, manatees and and sea urchins – just to name a few.
We also stop at “natures salad bar” and treat you to some of the Indian River Lagoon’s wild edibles such as sea-purslane, saltwort and glasswort, to name a few.
Come join Nichols Surf Shop for a spectacular Indian River EcoTour experience! Unwind as your tour guide leads you on a rich, educational, and fun journey.
What is Ecotourism?
Ecotourism is defined as “responsible travel to natural areas that does no harm to the environment, sustains the well-being of the local people, and involves interpretation and education”. Education is meant to be inclusive of both staff and guests.
Certified Florida Naturalists – University of Florida
Having grown up on the white water of the Potomac river, I have years of experience in paddling and water safety.
I am an avid explorer of the natural world and will bring that experience and my enthusiasm to each tour.
